This exhibition features paintings, drawings, and photographs by avant-garde artists who contributed to the 1940s journal Dyn. This international group of artists shared a fascination with the indigenous past of the Americas and merged imagery from physics, mathematics, geology, and archaeology with motifs from pre-Columbian and Native Pacific Northwest objects to create works of visual abstraction.

The Knoedler Gallery Archive preserves the records of one of America's oldest and most preeminent art galleries. Founded before the establishment of most museums in the United States, the Knoedler Gallery was a conduit for the masterworks that defined many public and private collections. This archive adds remarkable unpublished resources to the GRI's collections documenting the history of taste, the art market, collecting, and patronage.

Featuring select moments in Mapplethorpe's career, this online gallery includes examples of his earliest work as a student at Pratt Institute, showcasing his abilities in diverse mediums like graphic design, drawing, collage, and assemblage.

The Mapplethorpe archive spans the artist's career, from his early drawings, collages, assemblages, and unique Polaroids, to his renowned photographic work through the 1980s. A portion of the archive is now available for research and includes artworks created by Mapplethorpe as well as artworks he acquired or collected from others. The remainder of the archive—including large-format non-editioned prints, Polaroid test shots, films, personal and professional correspondence, and commercial work—is still being processed and will be available in early 2013.

A virtuoso pianist and formidable talent in avant-garde music, David Tudor (1926–1996) began producing his own compositions in the late 1960s. In these works, he often combined electronic sound with visual components such as found objects and sculptures. Now available online, the audio recordings of Tudor's compositions feature a wide array of his works, including Bandoneon!, Rainforest IV, Sea Tails, and Soundings: Ocean Diary.

This suite of 10 lithographs by French printmaker and painter Odilon Redon (1840–1916) was inspired by scenes from Gustave Flaubert's La tentation de Saint-Antoine (1874). Forming one of Redon's most famous series, these prints demonstrate the artist's mastery of lithography and his ability to imitate the textures, tones, and rich blacks of his charcoal drawings, called noirs.

Pacific Standard Time: Los Angeles Art, 1945–1980 was awarded the Southern California Independent Booksellers Association's Glenn Goldman Book Award for Art, Architecture, and Photography.

Modern Japanese Art and the Meiji State and the Getty Research Journal, No. 4 won awards at the 42nd Annual University and College Designers Association Design Competition in the book and professional journal categories, respectively.
