Project Details

About

Goal

The Archaeological Conservation & Site Management project developed courses to prepare archaeologists, architects, and civil servants for the conservation problems they will face in their work. Responsibility for the care of archaeological objects and sites often falls on these professionals, but their training does not typically prepare them for this responsibility.

Outcomes

  • Series of courses on conservation-oriented field techniques and preventive measures in archaeological excavations (1987–1993) -Courses on the field conservation of excavated objects and buildings, in conjunction with projects in Tiwanaku, Bolivia, and Paphos, Cyprus (1987) -Course on the conservation of artifacts made from plant materials (1987) -Course on the consolidation of ethnographic painted objects (1990), which led to the creation of a special Art and Archaeology Technical Abstracts (AATA) supplement
