Panel Paintings Initiative

Component Two: Training and Education
The Panel Paintings Initiative is planning to undertake a survey to better understand the nature and scope of the training and professional development needs of specialized panel paintings conservators.

Through interviews and first-hand investigation, the survey will seek to answer a number of key questions, including:

  • How many experts are currently (and in the foreseeable future) in practice?
  • What is the current state of preservation of panel paintings in some major collections?
  • What are the employment prospects for specialized panel paintings conservators?

Commencing in fall 2008, the survey will explore current training opportunities for specialization in panel painting conservation. The results of the survey will be used to develop a number of new training initiatives.
