Component One: Symposium On May 17 and 18, 2009, at the Getty Center in Los Angeles, California, the Getty Conservation Institute, the Getty Foundation and the J. Paul Getty Museum will host a symposium entitled, "Facing the Challenges of Panel Paintings Conservation: Trends, Treatments and Training."
This symposium will highlight recent developments in panel paintings research and conservation, ranging from specific treatment projects to related exhibition issues. The symposium will also include discussion of education and training needs. Symposium speakers and contributors have been invited from around the world and will include specialists in the structural treatment of panel paintings, as well as curators, scientists, and conservation specialists in related fields. The contributions to this symposium will be published as online proceedings.
Program information and registration materials will be available online in January 2009.
Call for Abstracts: Abstracts for posters are being invited to complement the symposium. Poster abstracts related to any of the following symposium topics are welcome:
- recent work in the structural conservation of panel paintings;
- exhibition and environmental issues for panel paintings;
- future needs for the field of panel paintings conservation.
Abstracts and supporting information regarding accepted posters may be published as part of the symposium proceedings. Suggestions for posters are now being considered. (It should be noted that the symposium will immediately precede the Annual Meeting of the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (AIC), to be held in Los Angeles, May 19-22, 2009.)
